Abstract

This paper discusses the problems hindering effective implementation of peace and conflict resolution curriculum in Nigerian tertiary institutions and also discussed the prospects of teaching peace and conflict resolution in Nigerian tertiary institutions. The paper employs the used of secondary data which were collected from print and online publications.  The paper concludes that the inadequate academic staff, shortage of instructional resources, poor funding, strike actions, inadequate infrastructure facilities and poor supervision as impediment in the implementation of the conflict resolution curriculum in Nigeria. In the aspect of prospects, the paper concludes that increment in tertiary institutions funding, professional association and international aids are some of the prospects of teaching and learning of peace and conflicts resolution in Nigerian tertiary institutions. Based on these findings, the paper recommends that there should be increment in the budgetary allocation of department of peace and conflicts resolution, employment of academic staff in the departments of peace and conflict resolution, provision of adequate instructional resources, infrastructure facilities and implementation of agreement with unions and ensure effective supervision of peace and conflict resolutions in the tertiary institutions.
