Abstract

This paper examined the impact of banditry, kidnapping and terrorist activities on Nigerian educational institutions (tertiary institutions, secondary schools and basic education). This study is a review paper. The study employed a documentary research method, depending on secondary data that were collected from online and print publications, while the method of data analysis was content analysis. The paper established that insecurity challenges have disrupted school administration, teacher’s job performance, students’ academic performance and enrolment, retention and completion of education programmes in respective educational institutions across the country. Based on this, the paper recommended improved school security, implementation of a safe school initiative programme and increment in funding of educational institutions to enable school administration to acquire adequate security gadgets. All educational institutions in Nigeria should be provided with a fence. CCTV cameras should be deployed to monitor the school environment. School administrators, teachers and students should be trained on security tips.
